Jonas Van Den Berg and Laurens Rademakers have posted an attention-grabbing article over at Biopac about Angola being on track to become a biofuels superpower:
Angola is set to become self-sufficient in food due to the revival of its agricultural sector which has once again begun tapping the country's immense natural potential. This is very encouraging news, and a refreshing change from the mainstream media's pathological focus on Africa's 'eternal misery'.
Translating this potential into better living conditions for Angolans demands a careful balance between producing biofuels for export, and meeting local needs for energy. It will not do to repeat the mistakes of the past--wherein natural resources have been more of a curse than a blessing.
